 MINUTES – Nov 14, 2011

Attendees: Lorriell Clarkson, Paige Tanis, Laurie Moriarty, Tera Berry, Cris Gammill, Kristen Lopes, Lin Vela, Katy Conlin, Ms. Meyers and Ms. Heckman.

 6:30      Welcome and Thank Yous (Lorriell Clarkson).  A special thank you on behalf of Mrs. Cutting for her yoga mats and from the playground committee for the $2000 we gave to them.   
 
6:35     Music Teacher Ms. Meyers thanked PAWS for contributing to purchase new world drums. 
She expressed how her class drum circles help build community at Columbine thru sharing, encouraging kids to create their own music, learning more about other cultures and developing critical listening skills.

 6:45     Art Teacher Ms. Heckman presented a program about what’s new in the art curriculum this year.  She has an art webpage that details each grade’s curriculum and features student art work.  Parents can ask their student or homeroom teacher for the password.

 6:55      Committee Reports
 - Holiday Shop (Paige Tanis):  It begins on December 5th!
     Please volunteer at Columbineholidayshop.weebly.com
 -  Poinsettia Sale (Laurie Moriarty): flyers will go home with students
 - Pizza: Both Dominos and Papa Murphy’s donated proceeds to Columbine this month.

 7:10     PAWS spending report:
With previously approved funds, the school is purchasing additional Flip cameras for classroom use; teachers begin Vantage Math training on December 8th and we’re recruiting retired teachers
  to return to Columbine for student tutoring. Additionally, PAWS unanimously approved
granting $50 per classroom (including three specials classes and the library)
for teacher discretionary spending to purchase classroom supplies.

 7:20: Ms. Gammill reported that Columbine is planning to again partnering with Professors and students from The Colorado College for an outdoors education program.

Next meeting is Monday, Feb.6, at 6:30pm in the Columbine library
