Description: Boy Scouts help young men get away from the television/computer/game system and into the outdoors. It helps young people learn and practice personal fitness, have pride in their country, community, and family. It also teaches them to be more confident and to set personal goals, then achieve them.  Scouts attend weekly meetings, play games, build projects and go camping. Many activities are for families, including siblings.

Description: The Choir Group will have the workshop and concert with the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale on Oct. 13th and the district-wide concert at the High School on March 13th.  The group will also be singing at the Senior Citizen’s holiday brunch and the National Anthem at the Sky Sox game.

Omnikin Ball
Grade eligibility: 3-5

Description: There are 3 teams of four players. The teams, called cells are on the court at the same time. Each player on the team is responsible for defending a corner about 5 to 8 feet from the ball.  The object of the game is to score more points than your opponents. The game begins with one team serving the ball. To serve the ball, three players hold the ball up while the fourth player yells “ominikin” and the color of another team and then hits the ball. The team called must catch the ball before it touches the floor. If the catch is successful, the receiving team serves. If the ball touches the floor, the other two teams get one point each and the receiving team serves. An official game consists of 3 periods lasting 15 minutes each. If the score is tied the game continues until there is a winner.

Sport Stacking (Cup stacking)

Description/benefits: Sport stacking helps students develop bilateral proficiency equal performance on both sides of the body. By increasing bilateral proficiency, a student develops a greater percentage of the right side of the brain, which houses awareness, focus, creativity and rhythm. Stacking helps train the brain for sports and other activities where the use of both hands is important, such as playing a musical instrument or using the computer. Sequencing and patterning are also elements of sport stacking, which can help with reading and math skills.

S.T.U.C.O. (Student Council)
Grade Eligibility: 4-5

Description: Student councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership. The student council helps share students’ idea, interests and concerns with teachers and school principals. They often also help raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events, community projects and school reform. Many members learn skills that were an extension of their formal education.

Ultimate Frisbee

Description: Ultimate is an exciting, non-contact team sport, played by thousands the world over. It mixes the best features of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, American Football and Netball into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game.

Y.E.S. Club (Young Environmental Stewards)

Description: Y.E.S. Club is an award-winning, innovative, science-based program designed for 4th and 5th graders. It combines environmental science, community service, technology and leadership in one fun and active after school program.
